Beginning February 1st, 2016, Leah Ball Handmade will be donating 20% of quarterly sales profits from the FAF collection to a different feminist organization, project or cause. Through engagement with our social media network Leah Ball hopes to generate a positive buzz around feminist activism. Follow @leah_ball_handmade to nominate the next group to benefit from this effort and use the hashtag #FAFNOW to join the dialogue. In doing so, not only will you help raise awareness of feminist organizations, causes and projects, but your participation will generate conversation and support for issues women face daily like reproductive rights, women’s health, education and equality. Rooted in intersectionality, our goal is to foster a discussion that is inclusive of all perspectives of the feminist experience.
Lady Parts Justice is a group of comedians and writers working on exposing the creeps and politicians trying to erode women's access to birth control and legal abortion. The name pays homage to Lisa Brown, a former Michigan state rep, when in office was banned from the statehouse floor for using the word vagina when arguing against a transvaginal ultrasound bill. When she asked what she SHOULD say, something less provocative like “lady parts” was suggested. The offensive nature of men being uncomfortable with the word vagina but perfectly comfortable legislating it, inspired us to use it as their name.
The donations from this quarter will specifically be used to target politicians and create legislative change by Lady Parts Justice. Check out their hilarious videos and find more info about them here: www.ladypartsjustice.com
