Where are you from?
How do you spend your time?
Doing all the things, all the time. I’m a musician and cake artist, so that doesn’t leave much time for other hobbies. I manage to travel a decent amount, and I’m constantly trying to squeeze in DIY furniture projects.
What’s your story?
Daughter of a white lady from Pennsylvania and an Iranian immigrant. Born into a loud, vibrant, yelly family of storytellers. The only way to keep your kids off drugs in Indiana is to load them up with extracurriculars, so I did a LOT of music and theatre. I have tons of females friends (and pretty much ONLY female friends, with the exception of a coupla gay men). I love projects and I love creative problem solving. I love talking about TV. I only kinda like talking about music.
What’s your feminist story?
I have a very strong memory of my father looking at me when I was in 4th grade and saying “Wow. For such a little girl, you sure do have a lot of opinions.” He definitely didn’t mean it as a compliment but I DEFINITELY took it as one.
What is feminism?
I honestly hate it when people are like “Feminism is the belief that women are people too!!!!!!!” - like come on. That’s just so flaccid. Presently, feminism feels like a fight for space and for a voice. It’s fighting for access to safe and legal abortion. It’s fighting against a culture that doesn’t trust women and doesn’t believe victims- it’s fighting to have our rape kits tested. It’s fighting to dismantle a culture that regularly harasses and belittles woman in the workplace while paying her less than her male colleague. It’s fighting against the stigma of choosing to be single and childfree. It’s using my priviledge as a white woman to give WOC and non-binary people a signal boost wherever and whenever I can and amplifying their voices without adding my own. It’s a lot of other things, too. It’s helping my roommate rehearse a difficult conversation with her boss where she asks for more money. It’s pulling the car over and intervening when you see some teenage fuckboi pushing his girlfriend at the bus stop, and staying with her until he gets on a bus in the opposite direction. It’s talking to my little sister about sex and pleasure and masturbation. It’s working with female collaborators and business owners.
What does "Feminist as Fuck" mean?
To me, it’s encouraging women to do whatever the fuck they want, all the time, on their own terms. My own personal mantra is “MY TERMS FOREVER”, so feminist as fuck really speaks to me.
What feminist topics are most important to you?
Abortion, sexual assault, and intersectionality.
